Organic gardening is undoubtedly a very enjoyable pastime, despite the effort, patience and skill involved. Keep reading to learn what you can do to make your garden succeed.

Sod should be laid properly. Make sure you prepare your soil before you lay any sod down. Get rid of weeds and tilth the soil finely. Lightly, but firmly pack the soil down, and make sure that it is flat. Moisten the soil thoroughly. When laying down sod, create staggered rows with offset joints. Firm sod until there is an even, flat surface; fill in gaps with soil. Water the sod for two weeks and then you can safely walk on it as it will have had time to properly root.

While working in your garden during the fall season, watch out for those stink bugs! They enjoy tomatoes, peppers, beans, and many different varieties of fruits. If not managed well, they can wreak havoc on your garden.

One natural method of weed removal is called “boiling”. A pot full of boiling water is an effective herbicide, yet it is, chemically speaking, completely harmless. Make sure to pour only on the weeds and to stay away from healthy vegetation. Boiling water kills weeds by destroying their roots. Weeds won’t be able to survive, never mind grow, with damaged weeds.

Take advantage of horticulture as a means to unwind. While there are many different ways to relax, choosing the right one for you is key. Gardening is a relatively easy way to pursue this goal. You do not need to spend a lot of money and you can reap tangible benefits. The most important reward, however, is the sense of accomplishment you experience when your plants mature.

If you know that you’ll be in the garden for an extended period of time, protect yourself from the sun with proper attire. Try wearing a large sunhat and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes, and use sunscreen on any exposed skin. By protecting yourself from the sun’s rays, you lower your risk of getting sunburns or skin cancer.

Pick your vegetables when the temperature is moderate to avoid bruising them. For vegetables growing on vines, cut them carefully rather than twisting them off to avoid damage to the plant.

Keep your gardening tools close by to maximize gardening efficiency. You can wear an apron or pants that have a lot of pockets, or use a big bucket or can. Keep your trowel, pruning shears and gloves handy so you can do your garden work quickly and easily.

Coffee grounds can benefit many types of soil. The grounds contain essential nitrogen, which will benefit your plants in many ways. Many times, nitrogen is a limiting nutrient in soils. Adding coffee grounds or compost can add nitrogen to your soils will help your plants grow tall and healthy.

Organic gardening can be a wonderful hobby that involves a love of nature, desire for healthier living, and much patience, too. It is a hobby that uses the land to grow something delicious. If you do the hard work and take the time, you will learn the ropes of organic gardening.
