Your organic garden can provide you with many essential nutrients. However, it can be difficult to grasp its intricacies and to know what type of equipment you need to purchase. You also have a wide variety of seeds that you can select from. This article contains tips that will ensure you have everything you need to start an organic garden.

When laying sod, it is important that you do it correctly. Make sure you prepare your soil before you lay any sod down. Remove weeds and break your soil until all the clumps are gone. Compact the soil lightly and firmly, and be sure to create a flat surface. Water the soil until it is saturated. When laying down sod, create staggered rows with offset joints. Tamp down the sod so it has a flat and even surface, then using some extra soil, fill the gaps between. Water the sod every day for a couple of weeks. Then it should be rooted well and ready for foot traffic.

Find some plants that will give you a higher yield. Normally, hybrid plants that are disease-resistant and cold-tolerant have a greater yield than traditional varieties.

Plant perennials that are slug-proof. Creatures like snails or slugs can destroy a plant in a single night. They gravitate towards perennials with smooth thin leaves, particularly on younger plants. Perennials that are unappetizing in taste, or that have hardened and hairy leaves, are not a favorite of slugs or snails. Some of examples of these are achillea, heuchera, campanula, helleborus, and euphorbia.

Cover fences and walls with climbing plants. Plants that grow as climbers are quite versatile, helping you hide ugly walls or fences, many times within only one season of growth. Climbers can also be trained to grow and cover an arbor, and they will grow through or around existing trees and shrubs. Some types of climbers support themselves naturally through twining stems or tendrils, but others will have to be attached to something. Reliable varieties include clematis, honeysuckle, wisteria, jasmine and climbing roses.

You should now realize how important an organic garden is for your health. You need to know what vegetables are essential for your overall health and how to grow them properly. Use the tips from above to take a step in the right direction when it comes to organic horticulture, and start your family on a healthier path to better living.
